The top item on the agenda includes the first reading of an ordinance adopting CALFIRE’s Fire Hazard Severity Zone map for the city of Santa Clarita and surrounding communities.

The map, released by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) on March 24, 2025, identifies areas of elevated wildfire risk within local responsibility areas of Los Angeles County.

Under California Government Code Section 51179, the City is required to adopt an ordinance formalizing the zones within 120 days of publication.

Councilmembers are also set to consider awarding a design contract for the Newhall Avenue Railroad Safety Improvements project, which aims to improve traffic signal operations, curbs, gutters, and medians near the intersection of Newhall Avenue and Railroad Avenue.

The project also includes roadway rehabilitation and new sidewalk approaches designed to enhance public safety around the railroad crossing.

Another item on the agenda is the approval of a construction contract with ARC Construction, Inc. to begin work on the long-anticipated Haskell Canyon Bike Park project.

If approved, the bike park would offer a new recreational space for mountain biking and cycling enthusiasts in the Santa Clarita Valley, expanding the city’s portfolio of outdoor amenities.

The full agenda and staff reports can be viewed on the City of Santa Clarita’s website.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Santa Clarita City Hall, located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard., Santa Clarita, CA 91355.
